PowerPoint rectangle/textbox - issue with border when rotating

Hi,

I'd like to report a bug in PowerPoint that affects borders of rectangles and text boxes when they are rotated.

The geometry of borders appear to "invert" and wrap around as in the screenshot. This affects any PowerPoint file NOT created using the default Blank template.

Steps to replicate:

Create a new document, use any Custom/Featured or Existing template/file. I used Gallery, but it also affects all custom templates we have.

Add a rectangle or text box

Apply a border with any line weight

Fill - any colour or none

Rotate the shape to see the issue

Observations:

Rotating all the way back to zero displays correct border. Rotating again re-introduces the issue.

Seems to be related to Join type as it affects the Round and Bevel types, but not the Miter join type.

Environment:

PowerPoint Office 365 Business - version 1806 (Build 10228.20134 Click to run)

Regards,

Brett

Also it doesn't happen on any of our Win 7 machines with this version which also points to a graphics driver / w10 problem. Did you try disabling graphics acceleration?

Check that you are using the same version. Under Version 1806 (Build 10228.20104 Click-to-Run), I get this effect:

The left-hand slide preview displays normally, but not the main area.

    Hi BrettHodges,

Thank you for your post. However, I could not repro this issue. To check we are in the same steps, please check the information below.

I have done some tests about this issue. Here are my test steps and some screenshots about the test result:

    1. Create a new PPT: File > New > Gallery
    2. Choose the Text Box under the Insert tab
    3. Choose the Shape Outline under the Format tab. Then choose the red border and 3px width.
    4. Format > click Rotate button > No matter which rotation is used, the border of the text will not change.

    (1) Rotate Right 90

    (2) Rotate Left 90

About the PowerPoint version: 1806(Build 10228.20134).

I suggest you follow these steps to troubleshoot this issue:

    1. Launch PowerPoint in Safe model: PowerPoint.exe /safe.
    2. Repair PowerPoint. You could learn more details from this article: Repair an Office application

If this issue persists, could you provided some information to help me identify the scope of this issue:

    1. Was there anything changed before the issue occurred, for example, Office update?
    2. A template ppt with this issue. You should share it through this link: PM
    3. A video about how your PowerPoint encounter this issue.

    Regards,

    Jonk

I can reproduce this. To report a bug, please click on File>Feedback, then click on the Send a Frown button. Explain the issue in detail as you've done and include a screen shot. I've also reported it.
