GetObject/Running Object Table

Is there a way to change the running table object so that I can use getobject to get take control of an excel workbook?

I can enumerate windows to find all running instances of excel but even if I make it the foreground window, set focus, make it -1 in z-order, send message, etc, it still wont change the running object table and getobject still picks up the same excel workbook.

I should also mention, these files are opened from outlook, so I don't have the file path either :(
