Hi,

I am having an issue with OneNote in which the recording feature is not working while I type. Whenever I start to type the audio coming from the lecture silences and the sound of my typing amplifies. This is extremely frustrating because I cannot simultaneously type and record the lecture. Please help me out with this issue.

Thank you for getting back to us with the updated status on your concern. I appreciate that you have tried to perform the workarounds stated in my previous post such as launching the app in safe mode and repairing it from the Control Panel.

The application should work with the said features if you take notes during the recording, they'll be linked to the audio and video created with OneNote. This way you can search your notes and find specific parts of the audio or video recording. You may find the steps on this link to make sure that you are doing it correctly.

If the steps are already performed and the issue still occur, we would suggest that you use the OneNote Diagnostic Tool to collect diagnostic information for your installed version of OneNote 2016 for Windows. Kindly send us the link through OneDrive and  we'll be sending this concern to our Support Engineering Team.

Don’t hesitate to update this thread if you have further questions.

Thanks for the reply. I am using OneNote 2016 on windows 10. The issue just occurred when I tried recording for the first time. I also tried safe mode and office repair. Neither worked, and office repair reported no issues. I am using a Dell XPS 13T laptop if that helps.

    Hi DK20A,

For us to have a better understanding of your concern, we’d like to know more details about your issue. Kindly provide us the following information:

    • When had the issue first occurred?
    • What is the current build and version of your OneNote application?

In the meantime, you can try to launch the app in safe mode and see if the same issue will occur. This will help us isolate the issue if there are add-ins that caused the issue. If the said workaround still unable to work, we would suggest that you run Office repair from the Control Panel. This will help you run some diagnostics that can find the possible cause of the issue.

We are looking forward to your response.
