One of our customers is getting this error when they are trying to add permission to an Excel document.

They want to protect the document so it's only read only.

Can anyone shed any light on how to fix this issue so they can protect the doc?

Hi Dylan

Close all open Office Applications, including Outlook, then open Word

In Word, go to File - Account and sign out

Close all Office Applications

Open the old Control Panel (click your Start Button, type control and hit Enter)

Go to Control Panel - User Accounts - credential manager - Windows Credentials

Remove all Office 365 credentials that look like: MicrosoftOfficeXXData: . . . ..

Open Word and sign back into your Office 365 account

    Hi Dylan,

Thanks for your feedback and glad to hear that the issue is fixed.

Authentication is the problem, so the issue is fixed after you sign out and clear the credentials.

    Best Regards,

    Gloria

I have tried the fix on my PC and it worked.

The persons PC in question is running windows 10 Home, could this be causing an issue?

    Hi Dylan,

Have you tried to clear the credentials and re-sign in your Office applications?

    Does the issue persist?

    Best Regards,

    Gloria
