message trace "getting status"

Hi all,

I was using message trace after a user was complaining that some of her emails have not sent, i noticed a few emails that stated "getting status".  I am a   bit unsure what this means, has the mail been sent or not? and this was from emails 48 hours old.  How long does it take for Office 365 to get a status?

Today i run another check through message trace, this time all users and email both ways and noticed quite a few more emails stating "getting status".

It would obviously be important to know if end users emails are not reaching customers and vice versa.

Can anyone please explain further than what the offical microsoft website states, which is: "Getting status: The message was recently received by Office 365, but no other status data is yet available. Check back in a few minutes."

Kind regards,

Hi Cinematic,

Please understand that "Getting Status" in Office 365 message trace is what you have mentioned "he message was recently received by Office 365, but no other status data is yet available. Check back in a few minutes". I have helped checked to see whether there is more information about it. But got little about it. And, for "getting status" itself, sometimes, it is related to the recipient's mail server which takes a longer time to response/accept the sender's email.

However, via considering your concern that whether the end user can send or be reached. I'd like to say if the end user can't send or be reached, there should be a NDR (Non-Delivery Report) generated. For example, if the end user can't send, the NDR will be bounced back to him; if he can't be reached, the NDR will be bounced back to the sender. In other words, the email should be sent successfully if there is no NDR bounced back.

Here if you got any problem in sending/receiving emails, please feel free to let us know.

Regards,

Alan
