Visual Basic Button in Excel greyed out (Office 365)

Hi! We have a problem with Office 365 Pro Plus and Excel. Suddenly the VBA Button was greyed out and .xlsm files cannot be opened. When we use "open as Administrator" when opening Excel the VBA Button is visible as usual and everything works fine.

We tried repairing the Office 365-Installation already but nothing helped. Also completely reinstall of Office 365 didn't fix the problem.

Maybe anybody has an idea?

    Hi Rena,

    thanks for your Response.

The issue is not related to any workbook, it's an issue with Excel. As soon as this user opens Excel then VBA is inactive as you can see in the screenshot!

If another user logs in on this Laptop the same issue appears and VBA is also inactive. Only when the Administrator logs in on his Laptop VBA works!!

We also thought about Problems with the Windows profile but this didn't help.

    Regards,

    Jens

Hi Eli, thanks for your reply!

    1. Any .xlsm file cannot be opened or created, because the vba/macro button in Excel is greyed out an cannot be used. When trying to open any .xlsm file we get the following message:

This happens only on this Client!

    1. Safe Mode didn't help either! But as described earlier when I use "open as Administrator" everything works fine and I can open .xlsm files and use VBA.
    2. please see screenshots above
    3. We use the same Excel Version 1812 (Build 11126.20266 Click-to-Run) but Windows 10 is still at 1803
    4. Important Notice: In Microsoft Word for example everything works fine (VBA, Macros). The problem seems only to happen in Excel.

    Regards,

    Jens

    Hi Jens,

I really want to help you, but it’s quite a weird case. As we can’t reproduce that, and all the suggestions can’t fix it, in this scenario, we’d suggest you use the workaround first to continue your work. Then click the smiley face from within the Excel app to report it directly to the related team for further help.

    Thanks,

    Rena

    Hi Rena,

    1. We tried reinstall using the easy fix tool already but it didn't help. Same issue again!
    2. The user has full control permission already!
    3. For now we can use the Workaround but it's not too comfortable because cannot open files from Explorer.

    You have any more ideas?

    Thanks,

    Jens
