Duane, thanks for the reply. I found the issue with more searching. It was the issue of Excel not recognizing the "*" wildcard in the Access criteria. I had to change the setting in Access to make it use SQL (ANSI 92) standard.
For those "non-SQL" folks, perhaps MS could put an option in Excel such as "Work with Native Access Wildcards".
