Adding Tasks App Part to Sharepoint Site

Hi.

I created a SharePoint site. I have different parts: News, Activity, Documents.

I added the "Tasks" App. For awhile it was showing up as a link in the Activity part of the site, but for some reason it went away.

I can only find the "Tasks" App if I click on Site Contents. This makes it virtually inaccessible to new people looking at the page , unless they are directed to dig into the Site Contents.

I need for the Tasks app to show up on the SharePoint landing page or main page. I can't figure out how to do that.

I looked it up and found instructions to Add and App Part to a classic page." These are the directions:

Add an App Part to a classic page

SharePoint Online SharePoint Foundation 2013 SharePoint Server 2013 Enterprise SharePoint Server 2013 More... Less

Some apps for SharePoint include App Parts that you can add to a page on your SharePoint site to display data or information associated with the app. If you’ve installed a third-party app from the SharePoint Store, the details or description for that app should tell you whether or not the app includes an App Part.

On the site to which you’ve added an app, go to the page where you want to add the App Part.

  1. Go to Settings > Edit page.
  2. Click in the location on the page where you want to add the App Part.
  3. On the Insert tab of the ribbon, click App Part..
  4. Under Parts, click the name of the App Part you want to install (it should be similar to the name of the app itself), and then click Add.

The problem with these directions as that I cannot find the Settings./Edit page link that allows me to do these things. There are a couple Settings and gear wheel links but none of them lead me to that option.

This should not be rocket science. Can someone explain how to do this?

Thank you.

    Hi Melis,

    Sorry for the delayed reply. Please note that this depends on whether you are using a modern site or a classic site.

    This is how a modern site looks like:

    You may check this article for more details.

    If you are using a modern site, then I'm sorry to inform you that task list isn't an available web part in a modern site yet. You may check the detailed list of the available web parts in a modern site from here. I would recommend that you post your suggestion in the SharePoint Administration forum in UserVoice or vote for this feature in this thread Need to add Task list to SharePoint Modern experience so that our SharePoint development team could know your needs and add this new feature to the modern experience in the future.

    As a work around, you may try adding your task list in the left navigation panel to enable your users to notice and access your task list easily. Please refer to the following steps:

    1.Open your task list in Site Content and copy the URL of the task list;

    2.Go back to the site page and click Edit in the left navigation panel;

    3.Move the cursor to the navigation list and click "+" to add a new item;

    4.Paste the URL into "Address", add a display name and click OK.

    If you are using a classic site, you may refer to the following steps to add your task list to a new web part:

    1.Click the gear icon > Edit Page;

    2.Click the Insert tab > Web Part > select your task list > Add.

    Regards,

    Nathan
