Folder automatically duplicates in SharePoint

We recently experienced the issue, that one specific folder duplicates in our SharePoint structure.

We're using SharePoint sites and sync that with OneDrive to our workstations. Of all the folders and files we use, just one single folder constantly creates copies of its own, with the addition of the name of the computer as suffix.

The original folder ist called "Costs" and that ones duplicates to "Costs-BMCL02" or "Costs-DESKTOP-TM1AFP4"

Deleting the additional folders helps for a short amount of time, until another machine creates a duplicate.

Any ideas how to fix that?

thanks!

Hi Clemens,

There might be sync conflicts on your ends. Please try checking the option "Let me choose to merge changes or keep both copies" in your all OneDrive settings to see if it's related to the files in this folder. (Steps: Click OneDrive blue cloud icon >… More >Settings >Office >Sync Conflicts >Check the option.)

Since this issue only occurs in the certain folder, if it's feasible and convenient for you, you could also try creating a same and separated folder in OneDrive sync folder as well. If the issue does not occur in the new folder, you could use it to replace the old one.

If the issue persists after both the methods above, I would like to confirm the following information for the further assistance:

1.Are all your uses' OneDrive in the same and latest version

2.Is the "Costs" folder a parent folder in the library or a subfolder of another folder?

Regards,

Eli

    Hi Clemens,

Sorry for the delay as I was on my weekend.

Glad to know copying the files into the new folder resolved this issue. The original folder might have the corrupted folder structure before. In any case, thank you for taking the time to let us know.

    Best Regards,

    Eli

    Hi Eli,

Thank you very much for your reply.

"Let me choose to merge changes or keep both copies" was already checked in all of our OneDrive apps.

    To your questions:

    1. All OneDrive apps were running on the same version.
    2. "Costs" is a sub-sub-sub folder (yes... terrible folder structure! I am aware of that!)

Sometimes one does not think of the easiest solution - but thankfully you gave that to me!

Creating the same folder with manually copying the files into the new folder, and deleting the old folder plus all the duplicates solved the issue!

    Thank you very much Eli!

    BR

    Clemens
