OneNote hangs while importing notes

OneNote has been working great for me all this while.

But after I tried to import a big content (approx 1MB) into it, I cannot start the app. Whenever I start the app, a dialog says "Importing Notes" and it just hangs there. The dialog has  small X button, but clicking it does not do anything.

I tried force-quitting the app. restarting the app, restarting my computer and even re-installing the app. Nothing helps. It still shows the importing dialog and hangs. The app is not responsive - all the menu items are disabled.

I am OK with losing that content I tried to import. I just want to get into the app so that I can access the rest of the notes. (All the notes are backed-up on the server; but I want to use them offline in the app).

Is there a way to reset the state of the app so that it won't try to import it at every start up?

Machine: MacBook Pro MacOS High Sierra 10.3.3

OneNote version: 16.11

Regards

AJ.

Answer at the following link to fix OneNote crashing on startup helped:

https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/msoffice/forum/msoffice\_onenote-mso\_mac/onenote-for-mac-crashes-on-start/76198510-7bef-407c-ad79-d3628a94ee27

Steps that helped me:

  • Delete folder: ~/Library/Containers/com.microsoft.onenote.mac
  • Delete folder: ~/Library/Group\ Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office
  • Launch OneNote (and sign-in again, if required).

    Hi JoanSays,

It has been a long time since you posted.

Have you browsed xk0der’s suggestions? Is this advice helpful to your question?

And something you should know, Outlook data will be removed when you move the folder - ~/Library/Group\ Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office to Trash. You chould learn more details from: Uninstall Office 2016 for Mac. Befor you delete the files, you could back up these folders before you delete them.

If this issue persists, you could come back and we will do our best to help you.

    Regards,

    Jonk
