Font does not work in chart.

Split from this thread.

I have precisely the same problem as OP.  Here is a screenshot of the problem.

I have discovered that copying the chart element (the title in the example above) and pasting that text into a cell results in the correct font.  So apparently the correct font is applied to the chart text, it is just not displaying properly.

I have tried all the three methods above, and they have not affected the problem.

(Deleting those files did, however, destroy my ability to edit documents.  So now I get to try to fix that...)

Hi All,

Sorry for the late response. To summarize the issue:

Description

Cannot apply Times New Roman font type for the Excel 365 for Mac chart title/text box. It still displays as default font Calibri.

Environment

Excel for Mac, version 16.20

More information

I've involved more resources to look into it. But there's no detailed ETA at this moment. I'll post back any updates once available.

We got an update that the fix will be deployed to the future Office update. Per our tests, issue now disappears on Excel for Mac, version 16.22 (190123) (Insider Fast).

    Thanks for the response.

    • Deleting the files in ~/Library/… folders eliminated all my preferences and also my software registration.  Perhaps I should have anticipated this, but since Tina specifically mentioned the loss of Outlook data, I failed to consider what other settings might be erased.
      • This caused a problem for me, but one with a known solution.  It took me a while to reinstate the software registration and my preferences, but that has all been returned to functionality.
    • As with the original poster, I'm on macOS, specifically 10.13.6.  My Excel version is in the screenshot.
    • As with the original poster, the problem appears to ONLY be with Times New Roman.  At least, I have tried several other fonts, and have not found others with the problem.
    • It certainly worked in the past, but I cannot say for sure when the problem arose.  System Information.app> Software> Applications indicates that I have not installed any new applications for at least 4 months.  I certainly have installed software updates, including Microsoft Office—I originally got the 16.18 version through Office Insider in September, to correct the bug in 16.16 for printing grouped text boxes.
    • It is perhaps significant that if I right-click on the chart title and select "Font…", in the resulting dialog's "Latin text font" list Times New Roman is absent.  Of course, there is also the issue that selecting any font from that list has no effect on the chart title.
    • Font Book.app does not find any duplicates in my system.

    Hi James,

Thanks a lot for posting in our forum.

My understanding is that the second method Tina suggested caused another problem. If so, please share more details about "destroy my ability to edit documents". Please capture a screenshot if you encountered any error message. We would like to focus on this problem first.

If you have figured out it by yourself and are able to edit in the workbook now, could you please share your OS version? We will insert a chart in a workbook to test in the same environment as you. Meanwhile, did it work properly previously? If so, did you make any changes like installing or updating some software?

    Appreciate your understanding.

    Regards,

    Zixuan

Dragging the screenshot into the editing window showed the image while editing, but it disappeared upon posting.  Let me try again using the image button…
