Upload Failed - Excel Issue

Our company have Excel files that need to be worked on by multiple people. I have tried to use the Co-Authoring option on Microsoft Office 365 and I always get an error saying:

UPLOAD FAILED   Your file wasn't uploaded because your changes can't be merged with changes made by someone else.

It then gives me an option to save a copy or discard changed. Clearly this is unacceptable. This problem seems to only happen with Excel. Powerpoint and Word co-author without a hitch.

Office 365 version 1804 (Build 9229.2126)

File saved in OneDrive (We've also tried files saved in SharePoint)

Also, is there a way to use filters while co-authoring without it filtering both users? So 2 users can use 2 filters without having their data blocked out? Any help is appreciated.

Hi Brent,

I can't reproduce this issue via the steps you mentioned. Please update your Office to the latest version then check if this issue still exists.

If this issue persists, please try repair Office to see the outcome. You can follow the steps below to do that:

  1. Click Win+E to open file explorer.
  2. Type this path to open app list: Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features.
  3. Right-click Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus>Change>click Online Repair.

Please have a try and share with me your result.

Thanks,

Neo

    Hi Brent,

Welcome to this forum and we are glad to help you.

Based on my test, I can use the co-authoring feature normally via share file with other users. Files are stored in OneDrive and SharePoint site.

To check if this issue is related to your file or this feature, please create a new file in OneDrive or SharePoint then share it with your users to see the outcome. Besides, please also share with me more info as below to let me have a better understanding of your scenario:

    1. Screenshot of the error message you encountered.
    2. The detailed steps about how do you reproduce this issue.

And you are not using the latest version of Office, please click File>Account>Update options>Update now to get the latest version of Office.

Regarding Filter, I'd like to explain that is based on content and it is not feasible to filter only one user. You can send your feedback about this feature via File>Feedback.

    Thanks,

    Neo

    Hey Neo,

Thanks for the welcoming. I've found solutions here in the past and I'm sure you'll be able to help with my current issue.

Here is a screenshot of the error message. It pops up right between the ribbon and the spreadsheet cells.

To reproduce the issue, I have uploaded a blank Excel file to my OneDrive account. I can then pull the file up on Excel Online and in app as the same time. I'll start editing (changing colors, placing text strings, doing basic calculations) on both versions. I am sure not to interfere with the same cell on both versions. After a few edits, as the in app version is saving, that error box will show.

The same happens when I co-author using a coworker's Excel and my own. Same versions, but one eventually gets booted out of the co-authoring.

Let me know what you think and thanks for the help,

    Brent
