Customized bullets using symbols distorted

I have been customizing bullets in Word 2010. I choose a "symbol" and it shows up, but the image is grossly distorted (stretched horizontally.)  I'm using mostly dingbats, wingdings, etc.. They are basically pictures, but the bullet function messes them up. Any solutions here?

Has any sort of scaling been applied to the text of the bulleted lists?

OK, I did find the "scaling" function, and it was set to 200%. I have NO idea how that happened. I had to go through each font manually and set it back to 100%, then use the proper sized ones enough times to have the stretched ones drop off the "recently used" list. Is there some way to choose 100% scaling as the default setting?

Does it look the same in Print Preview? Does it print that way? Print to PDF that way? Do the bullets appear squished if you use them with a more ordinary font such as Arial or Times New Roman, Cambria or Calibri? I'm thinking the funky fonts are bound to be a factor.

I don't think I applied any scaling. As you can see, the bullet should be round, but it's oval, stretched horizontally.

Well, 100% should be the default. Like you, I can't imagine how it got changed. Very likely it won't happen again, but if it does, at least you know what to do!
