Default link for users with existing access

Hi,

I would like to ask why the option "People with existing access" is missing in default link type settings in Admin center? I think that this is most used ever… Usually in SharePoint you have library which by default inherits permissions from the web site. Why should I change permissions and set again permissions for all people or specific people. When I do it, it break my permissions and I have individual permissions what is not desirable. It is totally confusing for end users because they do not know that they create a link for all employees because usually they just need use the link and instead of they share the file with somebody else.

It makes sense for me in OneDrive but not in SharePoint sites.

Options:

Admin center:

Thank you,

Mirek

Hi Mirek,

Thank you for posting in the community forum here. I can understand your willing to make the “people with existing access” link as the default link. If so, people can copy and paste the item link to others easily without granting new permissions. And the people who are having existing permissions can click the link to go to the item easily.

To address your concern, here’s the UserVoice: Add "People with Existing Access" to the Default Link Types under SharePoint Admin Center's sharing options. We suggest you vote and monitor it. The higher votes may let the product team pay more attention to this. And this is the best way to let us hear your voice and to make our products and services better for you and others.

Thanks for your understanding,

Rena

    Hi Rena,

we have the same problem in our organisation (1000+ employees) where Sharepoint is heavily used. I too have voted. I hope this can be resolved sooner rather than later.

Using https://admin.onedrive.com/?v=SharingSettings you can set specific people as a default instead of only people in your organization.

With advanced settings for shareable links you can keep the duration of those links to as short as you want

    Hi,

I did not say that it does break access. I just mean that it stops inherating and you grant new permissions on the file. Why? Usually people need just share document / share link. They do not want grant permissions but usually they do it because these feature is confusing for them. I know about a lot of cases where people created a link for a document but shared file for "People in your organization" by mistake. Microsoft does not have tool for managing permissions but allow users create individual permissions. Interesting. For IT departments it is totally unmanageable. Simple feature where you are able to set the option by default "People with existing access" can make our life absolutely easier.

    Hi,

I am an Independent Advisor here to help you.

Actually granting acces to another user does not break acces for all the other that already had access.

Please let me know I'm happy to try to solve your problem.
