Footnote numbering jumbled

So I'm working with MSWord 2016 on a rather large document. The footnotes go up to 19, then suddenly restarted at 6 for no reason. I have tried EVERYTHING, and nothing is fixing this. I've checked that numbering is set to continuous throughout the entire document, not per section. I've looked for hidden section breaks. I've even inserted a continuous section break so that I could maybe get it to start at number 20 and count from that section again. But when I tried that it jumped to number 25, even though I specified number 20. I've tried removing the footnote and retyping it. It does exactly the same thing over and over again.

(I do not have tracked changes enabled).

    See: http://www.msofficeforums.com/word-vba/16610-repair-two-interspersed-endnote-numbering-schemes.html#post47377

If you convert your footnotes to endnotes before running the macro, then convert them back again afterwards, your numbering sequence should be fixed.

    At its most basic:

    1. Open your document
    2. Press Alt-F11 to open the VBA Editor
    3. Copy the macro from the link and paste it into the main window in the VBA Editor
    4. Click anywhere in the range spanned by the code and press F5.

If you get a macro warning upon saving the document or exiting Word, you can ignore it.

    Hi Doug,

This is a document from a client, so I am not free to share it. Do you have any suggestions for me otherwise?
