Problem with Project/Vision install

Hello -

My problem:

When I attempt to install Project / Vision it usually stops at about 75%. I established that it may be something to do with a isntaller file:

\office\data\15.0.4641.1005\stream.x86.x-none.dat

(https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/3020073/office-365-setup-freezes-office-is-installing-in-the-background)

I followed the steps and it worked.

However -

There are hundreds of machines that will be deployed with the same Office install. Is there anyway that I can find this .dat file and replace it with one that isn't corrupted.

Or does anybody else have any details/ideas that may help.

Thanks

Hi Qing,

I have been downloading Project and Visio the same way that it shows me on the article.

It is on all of our computers - they are all built with MDT. So Office is automatically deployed to it and when I attempt to download Project or Visio sometimes one will go all the way through and the other will get stuck - or both will be stuck at 75%.

It would help if someone could explain where the corrupt file can be found. As I will be able to fix the problem by completely uninstalling all office software and giving it a fresh install and downloading both applications - and then find the non-corrupt file in that and replacing it on any future machines with the same problem.

Please let me know if this is something anyone can help with.

Corrupt File: \office\data\15.0.4641.1005\stream.x86.x-none.dat

Thanks for your help.

    Hi Qing,

    I am not desparate to find the file - only if it is corrupt. Like I said, if I uninstall office and do a fresh install it works fine.

    However, I need to find the most efficient way to resolve this problem. Because 20% of our machine will require visio/project and that is about 200 machines. These will not all come at once because previously we have not had this problem but with fresh builds or older machines that I am rebuilding (which is at a fast rate) will cause a lot of wasted time if there is an easier solution out there.

    Is there any tests that I can do that may be causing this other than the corrupt file?

    I am not saying that the corrupt file is the problem but the uninstall and reinstall seemed to fix the problem.

    Thanks,

    Jack.

    Hi Jack,

    Thanks for your updates.

    We are glad to hear that the issue is solved by reinstalling Office.

    I would like to explain that I couldn't find the file stream.x86.x-none.dat if we install Office from Office 365 Portal

    If you want to find it after install Office, I suggest you install Office via ODT:

    1. Download Office 2016 Deployment Tool on your PC: https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=49117
    2. Double-click OfficeDeploymentTool.exe, and then extract the following files to the local path on your PC (e.g. c:\ODT ).

    •Setup.exe

    •Configuration.xml

    1. Open the Configuration file with Notepad, and then paste the following text to the Configuration file.

    <Configuration>

        <Add OfficeClientEdition="32" Channel="Monthly">

            <Product ID="VisioProRetail">

                <Language ID="en-us"/>

            </Product>

        </Add>

    </Configuration>

    1. Open a command prompt as an administrator and input the following command. To do this:

    Click Start>In the Start Search box, type cmd> Right-click the Command Prompt, select Run as administrator>Input cd c:\ODTand press Enter> Input ****

    setup.exe /download configuration.xml

    setup.exe /configure configuration.xml

    5.  Install the Visio.

    Then you can find the file via the location: \office\data\15.0.4641.1005\stream.x86.x-none.dat.

    Regards.

    Qing

    Hi Jack,

    We could totally understand your frustration about encountering the situation and we are willing to help you try figuring it out.

    First, I would like to explain that the issue may only occurs on one special computer, you can try install it on other computers.

    If the issue occurs on all computers, you can try install Project or Visio via the following links:

    Install Project

    Install Visio

    Regards,

    Qing
