Excel Histogram Formatting

I am trying to create a Histogram but I can't seem to format the graph in the way I format all other types of charts I've used before.  For example, I wanted to angle the axis text but when I selected the axis, went to text options, and looked under Text Box, the Text Direction option was grayed out.  Also, I want to resize the chart and add a text box at the bottom of the graph to add notes on the graph but this is not doable with a histogram.  I can neither resize the chart area (like i can on any other chart, even charts in the same workbook) nor can I even insert a text box.  When I click on the Insert tab the entire thing is grayed out.

Thanks
