Inserting multiple files simultaneously

I’m using Office 365 for Mac. Using Word 2016 with High Sierra, I’m trying to insert multiple Word documents into a single document simultaneously. I can’t make this work using the Insert function. If I try this by means of Finder, then I can move multiple files, but they come in as objects and I can’t edit them. Is there a way around this? Thank you.

Hi Alice,

That feature is not implemented natively in the Mac version of Word. I have a free add-in to Mac Word that performs that function. It's called AuthorTec Insert and you can download the install file for it directly from that link.

Before downloading, if you would like to learn more about the add-in take a look at the AuthorTec Insert Online Tutorial we have that explains the add-in's full functionality.

My AuthorTec line of FREE add-ins for the Windows and Mac versions of Word, exist to fill the gap of features that may not natively exist in the Word software and/or they perform the functions faster because they allow multiple selections of features and files and thus eliminate multiple clicking to get the job done.

I hope this helps

    Hi Alice,

I do not have a Mac and am writing from my experiences with the Windows version. That version is similar, but the two are not the same. While I used Word on a Mac, that was a long time ago. Nevertheless, I hope that I can be of some help.

It is very important to realize that unless the different Word documents you are importing are based on the same template and use the same styles for formatting, you are unlikely to be happy with the result.

Gathering and combining multiple files in pdf format is much simpler, but does not necessarily allow for easy editing in Word. (It can be done, just is painful.)

Do you plan on editing the combined document?

Are there existing headers and footers that need to be preserved?

What will the page numbering be like?

Any combined Tables of Contents or Index?

I hope this information helps. Please let me know if you have any more questions or require further help.

    Regards
