Excel for Mac does not support SharePoint data connections

I have asked this question myself and come across numerous other posts from customers asking the same question.

The same reply gets copy/pasted to each question that provides two tangentially related articles that do not actually answer the question or provide a solution. I find this a bit irritating because no one simply says, "that is not currently supported" - so I'm saying it.

To all MAC users who are trying to connect excel to a SharePoint list. That connection type is NOT currently supported.

ODBC is a great start, but I think I speak for the larger community when I ask the question...

When can we expect Excel for MAC to support the SharePoint data connection?

    Hi Anton's Key,

Export to Excel feature works only on Windows, as an ActiveX control called SpreadSheetLauncher is used in SharePoint to validate whether you have Excel installed for Export to Excel feature or not. This produces limitations on browsers which do not support ActiveX (such as Safari, Chrome and Firefox). Currently only 32-bit versions of Internet Explorer support this functionality.

For more information, please see Plan browser support in SharePoint

For this requirement, I’ll suggest you vote or provide your feedback in the following SharePoint UserVoice link, where other customers have made the same request. UserVoice is the best way to give the feedback to Product Group as it’s actively monitored by them and many new features have been implemented from our customers feedback.

Make the function export to excel in a document library work on a mac / osx

    We appreciate your understanding.

    Regards,

    Neha
