Microsoft Visio 2000

I have an older version of Microsoft Visio 2000 and on Windows XP it worked well.  I recently tried using it on a different computer with Windows 7 Professional and found a function that I am use to using giving an error.  When I draw an object lets say a square and then trace around it where the object turns white as a filler color then go to Tools Macros Visio Extras Shape Perimeter the dialog box gives an error in place of showing the area of the square.  Any help would be appreciated.  Also want to know if any newer version of Microsoft Visio will automatically compute the area of a closed object?
