Cache file corrupted.

When I am working on the desktop version, OneNote keeps crashing after every five minutes and I get the following message:

"The notebook cache file is corrupted. OneNote must create a new cache file to continue. You may delete the existing cache file or keep a copy for technical support. Deleting the corrupted cache file will save disk space and will not lose any content already synced with your notebooks. However, if you have offline notebooks that have not synced recently, you will lose unsyned changes" and get the options to "delete cache" , "make a copy" or "cancel"

On clicking any of the first two options, OneNote restarts, only to crash again.

Can someone tell me what is the problem?

Hi Seema,

You may first open OneNote>File>Options>Save & Backup>Cache file location>copy the cache file location, and then close OneNote, open file explorer to access that cache file location. Delete items in it. Now restart your computer and OneNote. See if there are some improvements.

Note: As the pop-up mentioned, you may lose unsynced changes after removing the cache file.

If method mentioned above doesn't work, please try online repairing the Office suitewhich include OneNote 2016.

If the issue persists, please open OneNote>File>Account>capture a screenshot of all info under Product Information (please mask your account info in the screenshot). Meanwhile, let us know the version of your Windows system.

Best regards,

Tim

    Hi Tim!

Thank you for your prompt help.

Unfortunately, only my network manager has the right to access the C-drives of all machines. So I am still waiting for him to come over to my desk and try deleting the cache from it.

I'll let you know how it goes.

    Thank you

    Seema
