The error report icon is showing up in the dock on my Mac.  I am using Mac OS 10 14 2.    Office 16 16 5

When I try to open the icon to see what the error is it will not open.  I have tried double click to no avail.  Right click gives me the open option and again nothing happens.

    Hi

    If the error is not showing, all you can do is force quit.

    If you know the steps to take that reproduce the crash, you can try them again and/or describe them here so others can try them out to see what happens.

    @Andre -

    16.16.5 is the current update of Office 2016

    16.20 is current update of Office 2019

    Both of these are the exact same software. It's how you log in that determines which version you will be using.

    If you download Office 16.20 and replace 16.16.5 with the software you will change absolutely nothing and still have 16.16.5.

    Hi g_898

    You won't be able to open it because its not responding, so, its best you kill it.

    Also, another user reported this issue also with their 16.16.5 installation.

    I recommend you download 16.20 manually and install it to overcome this error.

    Start an Office application, such as Word, and then choose Help > Check for Updates.

    Check the box for 'Join the Office Insider Program to get early access to new releases'

    Click in the list box then choose 'Insider slow'

    Then click Check for updates.
