MS Project - Mouse Over Task Information

Hi All,

I have a small issue with MS Project.  The task information pop-up is not displayed when I hover the mouse over a task.  I have tried changing the settings in 'user interface options' within 'project options'.  For information I am running MS Projects on a Mac through the Bootcamp application. I have viewed previous threads on this issue and have done everything suggested.

Thanks in advance.

Mike

    Hi All,

By way of an update, the problem has been resolved.  I did shutdown and restart my laptop, but this did not resolve the issue. As a last resort I planned to use the feedback application situated within the 'Help' task bar of MS Project. In preparing to take a screenshot I disconnected my external monitor from my laptop to ensure that the issue was captured in the largest possible format (if you use the snippet tool with an external monitor connected then it takes a screenshot of your combined laptop and external monitor).  With MS Project now displaying on the laptop I noticed that the task information was being displayed properly with the task information displayed when the mouse is placed over the task All of the occurrences of the issue were experienced when displaying MS Project on an additional monitor connected my laptop.  Wouldn't even know where to start with that one. Thanks to everyone who contributed.

    Regards

    Mike

    Mike,

For reference a fully updated Project 2016 is version Winproj.exe 16.0.4732.1000 (August 2018 update, there is no update for September). If you do not have that version, I suggest you run Windows Update.

When you place your cursor over the middle of a task's Gantt bar you should see a crosshair and a pop-up box showing task name, start, finish and duration. If you hold the mouse button down while placed in the middle of the bar you should be able to move the bar itself. The start and finish will move accordingly while maintaining the task duration. If you place the mouse cursor on the left end of the Gantt bar, you can adjust the percent complete by sliding the mouse. If you place the mouse cursor on the right end of the Gantt bar, you can increase or decrease the task's duration.

In addition, if you place the mouse cursor over the bar and right click, (for a single button Mac mouse that should be Shift-control), you will see a pop-up that allows you to select several menu items.

If your version is fully updated and you are not able to do the editing noted above, try a fresh new file. Does it work for that? If it works for a new file but not your existing file, try saving to XML. Then re-open the XML in Project. Note, you will lose any custom formatting with this process.

    Hope this helps.

    John

    Hi John,

Windows fully updated. Have tried everything you have suggested, but the pop-up box is still not displaying.  Will try a restart and see if that does anything.

    Regards

    Hi John,

I am using Project 2016 standard, and it is fully updated (as far as I can tell). If I place the mouse cursor over a task bar I get the icons that allow me to update the percentage complete, adjust the task duration, and move the entire task so that it starts on a different date. I have viewed several video tutorials, and whenever the mouse cursor is placed over a task there is a pop-up box that indicates: task title, start date, finish date, and duration. Hope this clarifies the issue.

    Regards

    Mike

    MikeWilliams549,

First of all, what version of Project are you using? Second, is it fully updated?

Where exactly are you hovering your mouse? I've never seen the task information window appear by simply hovering the mouse over anything.
