SharePoint Migration Tool Question

Hello,

I used the SharePoint migration tool to migrate a list from our on-prem site to our new Cloud SharePoint site.

I did not see this when I migrated the list, a few weeks ago, and my users just started using the site last week. When I used the migration tool to migrate the list from the on-prem SharePoint to the Cloud SharePoint site - the dates are all off by one day.

Example:

  • On-prem the Start Date is 3/6/19 and Stop Date is 3/6/19
  • On Cloud the Start Date is 3/5/19 and Stop Date is 3/5/19

It is like this through the whole list.

What I did was the following:

  • SharePoint on premise
  • Put in the URL I wanted to move from
  • Selected the data I wanted to migrate - the one list
  • Then I put in the URL I wanted the list to migrate to on the Cloud
  • Clicked Next
  • Migrated the data

If you need more information please let me know.

Thank you,

Beth

Hi Beth,

SharePoint on-prem uses your local time zone and SharePoint online uses its own time zone. When you migrate SP2013 to Office 365, it changes the Date Time value (in your local time zone) to O365 time zone and that’s the reason dates are off by one day.

In this case, you must check the regional settings for the affected site in SharePoint online.

For your reference: Change regional settings for a site

Thanks,

Neha

Mind boggling that MSft didn't plan for this when creating the migration process and offer at least some warning. There's no way anyone would expect this and no built in explanation of why it's happening. Shoddy developement practices again!

    Thanks for the help.

The Cloud settings had a different time zone.

Once I changed it to the correct time zone it fixed the dates.

    Thank you so much!

    Beth
