Why does MS remove the Equation so many users have been using? Is that really a security issue? If it is, then fix it!

The official word from Microsoft is that, with an update rolled out on January 10, 2018, Microsoft Equation 3.0 has been deprecated in all versions of Word back to Word 2007. For more information, see https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4057882/error-when-editing-an-equation-in-office.  In addition to the workarounds provided in that article, see https://0patch.blogspot.si/2018/01/bringing-abandoned-equation-editor-back.html

The trial version is free, and you don't have to pay for it.

If "MathType is fully compatible with the old Equation 3", then MS should buy it and install that into Word.

As I wrote, they are compatible because they are basically the same product, created by the same manufacturer (with a different name these days).

Obviously, since Microsoft has created a new Equation editor, they probably wouldn't be interested in purchasing MathType.

Anyway, suggestions for Microsoft can be posted at https://word.uservoice.com.

Microsoft has come out with something similar of its own, the built-in equation editor accessible from Insert | Symbol | Equation. But, as Stefan has mentioned, you can get a **free trial version of MathType**that, when the trial is over, will behave just like the old Microsoft Equation 3.0.

I see many people like me who used Equation Editor now are having trouble to display/edit the old files with the stuff from Equation Editor. If Equation has some security issues, then just fix them! I don't see the point why MS should have removed it! Because MS doesn't want to pay more money to the third party company? I guess. But before MS came out with something similar of its own, Equation Editor should remain!!!
