Upload notifications not working?

Hi all,

Sharepoint has this great feature - when a file finishes uploading to a site, it usually 'notifies' me in the browser, and then I can notify other team members with just a click or two from there.

However, this stopped working. The notification seems to pop up for a fraction of a second then disappear (doesn't seem like a problem with a pop-up/ad blocker). Anyone else had a similar issue and know how to resolve it?

Thanks Neha - I sent you a PM with the video. The notifications actually seem to be working now...but only about half the time. So I actually sent you two videos - both have the exact same conditions and file types, but the symptoms only occur in the first instance.

Hi Michael,

Which browser are you using? Please try using a different browser to confirm if this behavior is with a specific browser or all the browsers.

Also, please provide a sample video showing the exact symptoms. To create the video, use PowerPoint. In PowerPoint, click Insert > Screen recording. Once done, save the video and upload it in your OneDrive and then share the link with us in private message. Please click here to access your PM.

In addition, even though you don’t see upload notification in library, you will still know which files are uploaded recently. The recently uploaded files will have three small lines, as shown in the screenshot below.

Thank you Neha - unfortunately, this is happening to me even when I stay in the same browser window and do not open another application (or even switch to another window/tab in the browser). Do you have any other solutions?

Hi Michael,

I tested this on my end and noticed following things:

1. If I upload some files in library in a browser and while they are uploading, I opened another application to work on. After few minutes, I go back to the browser to check the upload progress, I see a notification “Uploaded no. of item items to library name” for few seconds and then it vanishes.
2. If I stay in the browser when files are uploading, the notification sticks longer till I click somewhere on the site.

If you are talking about this behavior, please note there’s no settings in SharePoint online to change this behavior.

If anything misunderstood, please correct me.
