Excel Filter strange behaviour

I have a simple spreadsheet (15 cols, 1100 rows) that has a filter on headings.  If I click on the down arrow in one of the column headings, instead of giving me the usual filter options it creates a rectangular picture box outline that extends to line 1200 and is angled to the right (top left hand corner is in column C, bottom left hand corner is in Column H).  I can change the attributes of this box (colour fill for example) and even move it but have been unable to delete this box and cannot apply a filter to that column.  Suggestions welcome.

Hi Chitrahaas,

Hooray!

Paste Special Values (and Paste Special All for the two columns that had formulas) has solved the issue.  Thank you so much.

Regards,

Paul

Version 16.20( 181208) is what I AM using as per my previous reply.  It was only downloaded as a new Office 365 installation five days ago.

    Hi skilover,

Thanks for writing back to us and providing the information.

As you’re using the outdated version of Excel, we suggest you update your Excel version to latest 16.20 Build (181208) and check whether issue resolves or not.

To update Office to latest version: Open Excel application> Help> Check for Updates

If you don’t see Check for Updates on the Help menu, download the latest version of the Microsoft AutoUpdate tool or you can refer following article: Update Office for Mac automatically.

    Regards,

    Chitrahaas

    1. Excel version is 16.2
    2. MacOS version is 10.13.6
    3. Video sent separately
    4. Only affects this spreadsheet.

    Hi skilover,

Based on your description, when we had tested at our end by taking sample Excel sheet with 15 columns and 1100 rows in Excel version 16.20 Build (181208) on macOS version 10.14.2 and applied filter for the all the data.

When we click on the down arrow on one of the columns, we got the filter window as below:

From your description, we can understand it’s not similar to the above. So, to clear understand the problem at your end, can you please provide the following:

    1. Your Excel version (Open Excel application> Excel> About Excel> note down including Build number)
    2. Your macOS version. (Click on Apple icon> About Mac)
    3. Please provide the video of the problem via private message.
    4. Check whether the problems occur only in specific worksheet or every worksheet? Also create a new Excel worksheet with sample data> Apply filter> Check whether when you click on the down arrow it appears as above or not?

In addition, we suggest you open Mac in the safe mode> open Excel worksheet and check whether the issue exist, provide us the result.
