Purchased MS-Project 2019. Install Problems setup.exe does not run

All I want is the software to install.  I've purchased Project 2016 in the past and the setup.exe does the install and all is good.

HOWEVER, now that I'm trying to install MS-Project 2019 the setup.exe does nothing.  I've read the articles for setting up the "config.xml" file and a lot of it makes no sense or confuses me since all it talks about is Office 365 rarely does anything say Project 2019 Standard.

We are generally not volume license users for regular desktop software but this is a volume license since that is now the way it is distributed.  MS articles talk about 3 different install types (why?) and that they are not compatible with each other in Office 365.  I don't use 365 but we have Office 2016.  I need to get this program installed yesterday.

Thoughts?

Trying to /configure and it wants me to uninstall Office.  Why uninstall office if I'm installing MS-Project?  This is not very friendly!!

    Hello,

If you did not buy Office 365 but Project 2019 Standard instead you probably need to install it the way you wrote above (with the config.xml).

The Product ID for non volume license Project is "ProjectStd2019Retail"

This tool is a little help:

    https://config.office.com/

You need to create the config file and download it.

Afterwards you open command line (cmd) and drag & drop setup.exe into cmd type "/download" and drag & drop the config.xml file into cmd. Then press enter.

Repeat those steps with /configure instead of /download to install.

If you still have problems with the config file or the cmd part I can create you one tomorrow and give you a batch file (.bat) which you can execute to start the installation.

Is this an MSI Installer version? Because I fear that those versions are not compatible anymore with the Click-to-Run technology which is used for Project 2019.

In this article the supported scenarios for different Office and Project / Visio versions are described:

What kind of Office 365 version is installed?

Does it say Office needs to be uninstalled?

If not see if your xml file contains the following line:

    <RemoveMSI All="True" />

if yes, change it to <RemoveMSI All="False" />

If it says Office needs to be uninstalled make sure you selected the same Update Channel for Project.

The following article gives you more information about the update channel:
