Buggy excel

I have created a file in excel which is far larger than it should be.  It's about 70MB and very buggy (takes ages to load, save, make changes and crashes frequently).  It creates dialogue boxes telling me that simple instructions will take a long time to complete.  It has 8 active tabs which are linked and working together.  There are only a few formula commands, but none are complex (IF, SUM etc).  It strikes me that there are some corrupt data fields or commands but I don't know how to troubleshoot the coding or fix the problem.  I'm working 32-bit version.

If you feel something has got corrupted, you need to prepare a new workbook and move the values from old workbook to new one.

However, optimizing excel workbook will require you to go throgh some literarature on this. This will be value adding to you also.
