Incorrect file size

I have a powerpoint file, the size of which on my PC hard drive is 1 MB.  That same size is reflected in the cloud on the main screen of OneDrive for Business.  However, when I look at Site Metrics, the file is shown as 7.5 MB.  I have turned off prior versions and deleted the recycle bin contents, so those do not account for the larger file size.  Can anyone explain this huge discrepancy?

Thanks so much.

This happens with a number of files.  If I copy one of the bloated files and make a minor change, the file size on OneDrive is correct.  It appears that the bloated files are ones I have worked on recently.  I’m wondering if the increased size is due to retaining prior versions before I turned that option off.  That is, although I asked OneDrive not to save prior versions, files that had done so did not jettison the prior versions anyway.

    Hi Andrew,

Yes, that is possible reason as you mentioned the phenomenon occurs to recently modified files and you switched off Version history thereafter.

    Hi Andrew,

Thanks for the query. And we are on this.

First of all, to better assist you, we need to collect information to know more about the situation here. Could you please help provide the below information?

    1. Does the issue occur only to this specific presentation? If you make a copy of the presentation, tweak its name a bit and then upload it, does the issue occur?
    2. Does the issue occur to other people in your organization?

    Thanks,

    Tina
