When using Building Block Gallery Content Control, the content control properties Category changes from custom name to (All Categories) value

I will do my best to explain this one.

I'm using MS Word 2016.  I have a custom Word Template.  In the custom template I have created 3 Building Blocks that happen to be images (I would insert the image on the MS Word doc, select the image, click Alt-F3 (creating new building block), enter a name, gallery = Custom 1, category name = myGallery <create new category for the first image and place all the other images in this category>, Save in = MyStatusReport (I believe it is a Word Template but it took the filename of my document).

Next I will drop in the document a new Build Block Gallery Content Control.  I select the content control and goto Developer Tab > properties.  I give the control a Title to the control and for Gallery & Category, I would select values Custom 1 and myGallery.  Once I complete that, everything works fine.  I can select the content control and I have a nice dropdown list with the images I can choose from.

At this point in time, I save the document as dotx (Word Template file).  I give this Word Template file to my co-worker so she can open it and create her documents based on the template.  The problem is this:

The Build Block Gallery Content Control doesn't work properly -- she opens the Word template file and when she selects the down arrow to expand the dropdown box to view the images, nothing displays.  I examine the Properties of the block gallery content control (select control, go to Developers Tab > Properties), I see the Category field is "(All Cateogries)" and not myGallery (I set the value as "myGallery" when I saved the template file).  I can go in and select myGallery category value and click OK, and the control works fine after that (she can now author a document,, save it as a .docx and all her future documents that spwan from the one .docx the block gallery content control works fine).  I took the Word Template file back to my PC and I have the same problem - when I view the Properties of the block gallery content control, the Category field has "(All Categories)" and not MyGallery.

Any ideas on how to make the Category field to stick on the Block Gallery content control when someone else opens the Word template?

Thanks in advance.

    Hi Clay,

You need to save it as a template before attempting to store Building Blocks in it. Only a template can hold a building block.
