Missing Equations

Hi,

A few days a go I added equations into my word document using equation editor as I have plenty of times before. However the next day I opened the document and some of the symbols in my equations had changed to a small question mark inside a box. Today as I went to correct this issue, all of my equations had disappeared.

This document is part of my university dissertation and so I am stressing out a little. Is there anyway to correct this issue without re writing my equations? And if I was to re write them would the same thing happen again?

Thanks for your help,

Sara

As a general comment, always, always keep backups for you important documents. Emailing them to a gmail, yahoo or hotmail account is a good idea for storing backups off-site.

Also, make sure your Word is updated (Help menu in the main menu bar).

From other threads:

  1. The document may print correctly. Or create a PDF.
  2. Open FontBook and check the integrity of Cambria Math.
  3. Also make sure the equations are using that font (there have been cases where it switched to Times New Roman and equation terms turn to squares).
  4. Check if the document opens OK on a PC.

    Hi Sara,

Here is an thread for your reference:

Office 2011 - Equation editor missing under Insert menu in Powerpoint. How to activate or install Equation editor?

I would like to share with you that Office for Mac 2011 client mainstream support ended on October 10, 2017. Continued mainstream support requires upgrades to Office 2016 for Mac applications as part of Office 365 ProPlus or Office 2016 for Mac. Thus, we kindly recommend you use Office 2016 for Mac to have the latest and greatest features and support.

    Appreciate your understanding.

    Qing
