Insert ActiveX Controls - Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications Out of memory

Hey guys,

I've just reinstalled my computer and using Office 365's Excel, or Office 2016's Excel I'm getting the following error when trying to insert an ActiveX control (regardless of which one):

Microsoft Visual Basic for Applications - Out of memory

I experience this problem with existing files, but also new ones, and for good measure I first rebooted my PC before creating a new (Macro enabled) file. I also tried disabling every single security feature in Excel to see if that'd make a difference.

Does anyone have a suggestion as to what might be causing this problem?

    Some additional info: no add-ins are active and the same problem also occured in Word, though with another message:

    =====

    There is a problem saving the file. Usually this is because the disk or floppy disk is too small for the file or is full, RAM memory is low, or there is a permission problem with the drive the file is being saved to.

    =====

    Also tried disabling my firewall, no change.
