Onedrive Error 429

Anonymous

I have a NAS (Synology) which has been sync'ing with their CloudSync tool to a oneDrive for Business account.

Due to a change in topology it was necessary to recreate the sync setup.

I removed the original setup. Now, however, when I try to recreate the job the connection is being rejected by OneDrive.

The synology log file reads:

[ERROR] onedrive-v1-proto.cpp(427): Error: http code (429), error message (The request has been throttled), error code (activityLimitReached)

How can I resolve this issue?

Kind regards and thanks.

Hi Tina,

as suggested in your first response I have been working with Synology to resolve this issue too. They have found a solution:

"it was due to an issue with the authentication of the sync task once you had put in your credentials. I believe this has been resolved by adding a mechanism to retry the authentication afterwards to avoid running into this issue further"

Thank you so much for all your assistance on this issue. You have been very professional and effective. You may close this ticket.

Kind regards,

Brendan.

    Thanks Tina,

I had come across that in my investigation of the issue.

The process that is triggering this issue is setting up a sync of data onto a onedrive account. As such there is a Single mouse-click that occurs and then returns the error.

Moreover, the process has been tried on different days at different times - according to Synology support, it is always triggering this error.

The process has also been tried at the weekend.

    Thanks for your ongoing support.

    Kind regards,

    Brendan.

    Hi Brendan,

Thanks for getting back to us.

According to the article Common error responses and codes, Error Code 429 Too Many Requests means Client application has been throttled and should not attempt to repeat the request until an amount of time has elapsed.  It is feature limitation. As such, please wait for some time to retry later. You may check the related  article:

[ODB] frequently receives 429 when requesting #797

Meanwhile, you may involve Synology team to further develop on the related topic here: Rate Limiting Policy Documentation Improvements #853.

In addition, we welcome and encourage you to submit your idea or vote for this similar one in Our Use Voice. It is the best way to improve our products and services for you and others.

    Thanks for your understanding,

    Hi Tina,

    thanks for responding.

I have been communicating with Synology prior to raising this ticket.

    Their position is that :

"these error messages are coming directly from Microsoft themselves and they are specific for your OneDrive Account so we would not be able to give any further information on these"

I have made repeated efforts to get them to troubleshoot further but they maintain that the error

http code (429), error message (The request has been throttled), error code (activityLimitReached)

explicitly points to an issue outside their control.

Can you please check the logs on the oneDrive account for my account

    ***@***.onmicrosoft.com

and see what could be causing the issue?

Thanks so much for your help.

    Brendan.

    Hi Dan,

Thanks for the query and I'm here to give you proper direction.

As you are using third-party tool (Synology CloudSync) to use OneDrive for Business, I'd like to suggest contacting Synology Technical Support.

    Thanks for your understanding,

    Tina
