Problem adding students on OneNote Class notebooks as students have @student.schoolname.edu vs prof. @schoolname.edu

I am interested in using OneNote Class notebooks in my teaching environment, I had setup the notebooks for the courses and then found that I couldn't add the students because the suffix ending is different than that of faculty members.

Students:  ******@student.msjc.edu

Faculty/staff:  ******@msjc.edu

This is something I have seen at other campuses as well.  Is there any way we can fix this?

David

    Romel,

Thank you for the information.  That was my thought, that since the students have a "student" in front of the university email address, that it is being read as outside of the domain rather than distinguishing between different types of users.  I will contact my IT department and see if they can further assist.  I appreciate your time.

    David

    Hello David,

I have made further research on this problem, and it appears that the email domain of the students could be detected as an external user by the server as they have different domains. It is best to contact the domain/server administrators of your school organization for further assistance. They can either allow the student's email domain or change it.

If you have any further concerns, please feel free to contact us back. We're happy to assist you again.

    Romel,

Thank you for the reply.  Again, the main issue is that since it is email suffix dependent, this isn't working with my students so I can't search for them because my suffix ending is different than theirs.

    professorName**@msjc.edu**

    vs

    studentName**@student.msjc.edu**

Because of the way this is setup, and this happens at other universities, I am unable to use any of the manners to add students therefore I can't use the Class Notebook.  I can use a regular notebook, but then I won't have the features of the Class notebook.

In other words, students cannot be added because they have the word student in their email address.

    Hello David,

Aside from adding your students using their email address, you can also add them using their student name or group name. You can check the article below for more information:

Add students to a Class Notebook in OneNote

I have also provided the article below as your reference for working on a OneNote Class Notebook:

If you still unable to add students, what is the exact error message that you encounter when trying to do so? What is the OneNote version and the device that you're using for this task?

If you're still having difficulties on this concern, please let me know by replying to this thread. This way, I'll get notified and respond back to you as soon as I can.
