Inconsistent Numbering

I run Office 365 subscription on fairly up to date devices. Windows 10 and Office are routinely (automatically) updated. I created a style and used it in five Word documents. When I get to C in the sixth document, the numbering absolutely refuses to continue when I select the tab icon. Whether I copied all the text to a different clean document and begin from scratch to all the text using the same style, OR copied the text into document 5 and try to merge the formatting, when I get to heading C, the numbers start at 1 again instead of continuing at 11. Right click to get Word to continue numbering does not work, NOTHING works and it is VERY FRUSTRATING. There is no page or style or other conceivable break, it is just simply doing its own thing.

I am typing this on my notebook while reinstalling office on my desktop. Thanks to this gremlin my evening is wasted. Can anyone help me please

Make sure that you set up your multilevel numbering so that it is properly associated with paragraph styles as explained in the article at:

If you send me a copy of the document, referencing this thread in the covering email message, I will investigate the issue.

Thank you.  I realized I was expecting something no style can do.  That is my dumbness!
