Hi, I hope this is the correct area to ask about this particular issue.
I have been experiencing a consistent issue across different machines in which Excel will lag behind the mouse cursor as you drag the window around the screen. This appears to happen after Excel uses up a certain amount of memory, even if only a few large
Excel files are open. I will provide some system information for the machines:
HP Z640 Workstation
RAM - 64 GB
GPU - Nvidia Quadro K4200
CPU - Intel Xeon CPU E5-2623 v3 @ 3.00GHz
Windows build - 1709 (OS Build 16299.904)
Dell Latitude 7490
RAM - 16GB
Intel UHD Graphics 620
CPU - Intel Core i5-8350U @ 1.70GHz, 1896 Mhz, 4 Cores
Tested with Windows build - 1709 (OS Build 16299.904) & 1809 (OS Build 17763.292)
The original issue was experienced by a user on the above HP Z640 workstation and I performed some troubleshooting such as:
- Navigated to Office Settings > Advanced > [Editing Options] > Unchecked Smart Cursoring
- Enabled and disabled "Enhance pointer precision"
- Enabled and disabled "Use software rendering instead of GPU rendering"
- Ran sfc /scannow to search for potentially corrupted Windows files.
As this appears to occur across multiple builds of Windows and different hardware, is this an inherent problem with the Office products at the moment? We are running Microsoft Office 365 ProPlus, the 2016 version of the products. The build looks to be
1808 (Build 10730.20264) on all the machines that I replicated the issue on. For the user with the Z640, he runs into issues when having just two 500MB Excel files open. I was able to replicate the issue on the Latitude 7490 across build 1709 and 1809 by
opening about five to six blank Excel files. At the moment, this is just an annoying inconvenience as it makes it difficult to drag and compare Excel files quickly since the windows take a while to be placed as a result of the lag.
