Document ID missing for some documents

We had Document ID feature activated for a site. However accidentally someone disabled that feature. When we enabled the"Document ID" back again, some of the documents didn't get the ID's back and they are having blank ID's. We even waited for 2-3 days that may be it takes time depending upon the number of documents in the site collection.

Please suggest how to get the document ID's to the blank ones.

    Hi Cliff,

    Apologies for the delayed response. 

    The Document ID's are now assigned to the blank documents. However there are still 2 documents left with blank ID.

    Can you please let me know the time the Doc ID timer job takes to assign Doc ID's so that I can inform my user about the same?

    Hi Cliff,

    Please find below the answers to your questions-

    1)Around 20 files are affected .

    1. The user re enabled the "Document ID" feature from the Site collection features link on the Site Settings page as well as checked the check box for " Assign Document ID's" from the Document ID Settings link.

    As suggested if I download and move the files to a new site , the doc ID's are getting generated.

    How can I generate the Doc Id's for the blank ones in the current library for the documents?

    Please suggest.

    Hi Snigdha,

    From your description, it seems that the document IDs are assigned to the documents in your site libraries in SharePoint Online. After some users in your company disabled the Document ID feature, some document IDs disappeared.

    If yes, to clarify the issue in your environment, I’d like you to confirm and provide the following.

    1. How many files are affected?
    2. How do you enable the Document ID feature? Could you list the detailed reproducing steps of the issue you are experiencing?

    Meanwhile, I suggest you move the affected files to a new site to see and let us know the result.
