Whenever I insert a video in presentation, It shows "Cannot Play Media" I tried reinstalling the application several times. Still doesn't play inserted video in Slideshow mode. Kindly help. I have tried everything -   un-checking disabling hardware and graphic acceleration, opening PowerPoint in safe mode and even running as an Admin. Need help please.

Thanks,

Swapnil

Hi Swapnil,

Please try the following steps, see if fixes the issue:

  • Open Office PowerPoint application.
  • On the File tab, click Options.
  • In the Options dialog box, click Advanced.
  • In the list of available options, uncheck Disable hardware graphics acceleration and Disable Slide Show hardware graphics accelerationcheck box.
  • Click OK.

Try to play the video, if it still gives the same error, please try online repair:

  • Click Start, in the search box typeRun
  • In the Run box, type appwiz.cpl and click OK.
  • Select **Microsoft Office 365,**click Change>Online Repair>Repair

If the issue persists, please provide the following information:

  1. What is the file format of the inserted video?
  2. Please provide the screenshot of Office 2016 Product Information? To get this screenshot, open PowerPoint on your system, click File>Account, capture the screenshot of all the information mentioned under Product Information. ( Note*: please remove any sensitive information from the screenshot such as email address, full name etc.).*
  3. A screenshot of the slide where you see “Cannot Play Media” error.
  4. Do you get the error in edit or slide show mode?
  5. Try inserting a different video, see if you get the same error.

Thanks,

Neha

Thanks, repairing the app worked for me. But its strange when reinstalling the app earlier didn't help.

Thanks again for the quick response. Cheers
