Sharepoint File Uploads - Metadata - Date Modified gets reset on upload

I would like to preserve the Date Modified Metadata of files uploaded to Sharepoint.

Example; I am migrating 200 files that have Date Modified Metadata that is critical to leave unchanged. I must know when these files where Modified. I upload all 200 files to sharepoint today 9/26/2018 at 12:00pm. Sharepoint displays the "Modified" date of these files as today 9/26/2018 at 12:00pm.

I would like the "Modified" date to display the Date Modified Metadata of each file. Can this be done with Sharepoint?

Could I create a new column that displays the Date Modified?

How could I see and sort by Date Modified?

    Hi Scott,

If you uploaded the file to SharePoint Online, that action will be considered as the creating. Date Modified column will take the action as the last one and show it in the metadata, so the the Midified Date cannot be changed.

We suggest you share your idea in SharePoint UserVoice. That's the best way to tell the team how to imrove SharePoint for you. Here are some ideas related to this topic. You could vote for them and share your comments.

Editing/correctly metadata should not be recorded as document modified. Metadata changes should be recorded separately. For metadata chang

    document metadata

    Bulk edit Metadata

If it is acceptable, you could add a column to the library, and use it to show the last modified data, and manually add the time to it. SharePoint has a default column you could add it fromLibrary Settings > Add from existing site columns >Core Document Columns Group > Date Modified

Then you could edit the date manually.

    Regards,

    Alex
