Styleref hidden text

Hello everyone,

I would like your advice on my predicament of using fields in word. I would basically like to know whether it is possible to reference a style that is hidden. Or more specifically to visibly reference hidden text.

I believe it'll help if I define my problem more clearly:

I'm trying to set up my equations such that I can easily reference then using 'caption'. With this, I hope to avoid using bookmarks, since I have a large number of equations. Therefore, I created a table a shown, with 2 columns. On the left is the equation caption, to which I applied a character style, called 'eqno', which is based on 'default paragraph font'. The equation number on the right is obtained by 'styleref' of this character style, and using '#' in the equation field. My approach for equation numbering would be complete by hiding the borders and saving the above as an auto-text entry.

The catch, however, is to hide the text in the left column, but at the same time, be able to styleref it on the right, and cross-reference it where ever in the document. To this end, I tried hiding it, and using white text color, all to no avail. I am particular about using this approach, i.e., using '#', so that it also allows my to align equations.

So, is there any other way to hide this text?

Hi,

The StyleRef will NOT pick up hidden text, whether the hidden formatting is direct formatting or part of the style. You can format it to be white and to be 1 pt. in height.

See Suzanne Barnhill's article on the field.
