IncludePicture field with SVG

Hello,

TL;DR: Can I insert an SVG image from a local file into a Word Document and update it in the document when the file changes?

Using the IncludePicture field I have successfully managed to insert a PNG or EMF image into a Word document. By this I can conveniently update the displayed image in the document when the file has changed.

Is there a way to do the same with an SVG file?

I see that inserting the SVG file manually through the Insert->Picture s dialogue works, but the object in the document is a Graphic rather than a Picture. (By selecting it, the ribbon shows Graphics Tools rather than Picture Tools)

Is there a way I can achieve the desired behavior directly or through a workaround? Is there an IncludeGraphic field? Does Microsoft Office has a way to convert an SVG file to EMF on the command line?

I am grateful for any suggestions.

Hi Simon,

Since *.svg file is a vector image file format which is different from *.png with a raster or bitmap image file format, they have the different behaviors.

Currently, I'm afraid there is no out of the box option to link the *.svg file like *.png or *.emf in Word. I encourage and suggest you vote for Insert Linked SVG images or deliver a new feedback regarding this in Word for Windows UserVoice which is the best platform for us to listen from you and others to improve our products. Thanks you for your understanding and feedback.

Best Regards,

Eli

I have not tried this and may be way off base, Have you tried using an IncludeText field instead? Insert as link?

Have you tried, instead of a field, inserting an object?

    I hope this helps.

    Thanks Charles,

IncludeText field gave an Error loading the file, the link works, but gives just a link to the file, not displaying the content of the picture, and inserting as an object works, but as well only gives a link I can click, not the picture itself.
