Opening protected document

Help please.

I have password protected word documents on one drive which I am trying to open but receive the following message

Conversion failed

Sorry, we weren't able to convert the file for editing.

This is before I can even put the password in.  Previously was using dropbox but just moved across to one drive and not sure why this is happening.

Can anyone help / provide a work through?

Thanks

Unfortunately, there seem to be no workaround for this. Reading the article at https://support.office.com/en-us/article/differences-between-using-a-document-in-the-browser-and-in-word-3e863ce3-e82c-4211-8f97-5b33c36c55f8 I see that Word Online does not support password-protected files. You should post feedback on this in the Uservoice forum at https://word.uservoice.com/forums/271331-word-online.

Unfortunately that doesn't work for all members of the team who need access to the documents.  We need to read/edit them on the move hence why I looked to store this info in a cloud.  Is there no work around?  I need to keep the documents password protected for GDPR purposes.  This worked fine with dropbox but moved them across as was looking to get a Microsoft office subscription which included the cloud data in one drive.

Try downloading the file to your local drive and open it from there. This assumes, of course, that Office has been installed locally on the computer where you are working.
