FIND & REPLACE FOCUS

Hello,

Prior to updating to the latest version of Excel our find and replace remained in focus. Once I found one value I could easily type in my next value and keep going. The newest version loses focus as soon as it finds or doesn't find my value. Requiring me to click back on the box to type my next search value. How can I get the focus back on the "FIND & REPLACE" box?

Hi MJAMES44330,

Sorry for my late reply. Appreciate your information. I was trying to download and install Office 1902 Build 11328.20420 from my side and test on it. Yes, I found that the cursor does go back to “Find and Replace” box after I click OK of the message so that I don’t have to move the mouse and click the “Find and Replace box to key in the value which it does cause some inconveniences when searching the value. I think this change properly be removed for some reasons in the latest version. I suggest you can post this feedback on Excel UserVoice. It is the most efficient way to let product team aware this problem. Thank you for your understanding.

Best regards,

Dihao

    Hi MJAMES44330,

Thanks for your reply and detail information. From your description, when it goes back to the Find and Replace box after finding the value, the cursor would show in Find and Replace in the previous version so that you don’t have to move the mouse and click in the Find and Replace to enter the value. Based on my test in Excel version 1909 Monthly Targeted Channel, it requires me to click the box by using the mouse in order to key in the value after it goes back to the Find and Replace box. If it is possible, can you recall the previous version which it has “Focus”? More importantly, may I know which version you are using currently? You can go to File > Account>Under Product Information to find it and attach the a screenshot in the reply. Thank you.

Yes and no to what you are stating. Yes it should take me right back to the "find what" in the find and replace dialog box once I hit ok. The cursor is not showing in the "find what" box. No matter if the value is found or not I have to physically move the mouse and click in the "find what" box on the find and replace dialog box in order to enter my next value I would like to find. Prior to updating to the newest version I would put a value in, hit enter, it would find or not find the value, and the cursor would go right back into the "find what" box on the find and replace dialog box so I can enter my next value to find. From what I was told by our IT department is that it now loses "focus". Unfortunately, they don't know why this is occurring.

    Hi MJAMES44330,

From your description, it seems that you have some concerns on the behavior of Find and Replace feature. Usually, if the value you try to find is not existing in your workbook, Excel would pop up a message to indicate that the value could be found. After you click OK, it should bring you back to the Find and Replace dialog box and you can key in the value to search it again. This should be a normal behavior.

May I confirm with you is this scenario you are referring to?  If not, can you please provide more details to further explain the issue or problem after you updated Office to latest version?

    Best regards,

    Dihao
