document properties prompt

When I have document properties prompt unchecked, why does Word continue to show the document properties dialogue box?? Am I missing something??

Is this related to the screen resize issue that Microsoft have gone very silent about? Is it too much to send out a fix, patch or update?? Or will we just have to wait 6 another months before that's fixed too?

Document prompt box:

Thx Davey

Hi Davey 143,

I do a test with the latest version of the Word 2016 for Mac application 16.25 (19051201) and can’t reproduce the issue when I save a new file in my environment. First I’d like you to confirm whether you are using the latest version of the Word 2016 for Mac application. If no, I suggest you update the version, restart the Mac and then do a test to see the result.

Meanwhile, I suggest you close Word 2016 for Mac application, navigate to /Users/username(the account you use to log into the Mac) /Library/Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office/User Content/Templates to find the Normal.dotm file. Then move the file out of the Mac. Finally open the Word 2016 for Mac application and a new default template Normal.dotm file should be created again in the Template folder. You can check if the issue goes away when you open a new blank file.

Create and use your own template in Office for Mac

Moreover, to check whether the issue is related to your local user profile, I suggest you contact the IT administrator in your organization and let him create a new administrator user profile on your Mac via the steps in the article (the article is applied to other operation systems as well) and then do a test with it to see if the issue is related to your old user profile if you aren’t the administrator. If the issue doesn’t happen in the old user profile, I suggest you post a new thread on Apple Support for expert help.

    Thanks Cliff

I tried everything but there were all sorts of things starting to happen that weren't working according to the chosen 'preferences' of the 365 software.

In the end, I had to delete the complete Office 365 suite and do a complete re-install.

    regards

    Davey

    Hi Davey,

I’m sorry to hear that the issue comes back in your environment.

As the issue can’t be reproduced in our environment currently, could you try the following, restart the Mac and then do a test to see and let us know the result?

    1. Close all the Office applications.
    2. Navigate to <YourUserName>Library > Group Containers.
    3. Find the folders below and move them to Trash.

    UBF8T346G9.ms

    UBF8T346G9.Office

    UBF8T346G9.OfficeOsfWebHost

Warning: Outlook data will be removed when you move the three folders listed in this step to Trash. You should back up these folders before you delete them.

    1. Restart the computer.
    2. Open Word 2016 for Mac to see the result.

Meanwhile, I suggest you create a new user profile to see if the feature can work fine in Word 2016 for Mac as well.

    Best Regards,

    Cliff

UPDATE: Further to my premature success, deleting the Normal.dotm file lasted a day before Word was back to its old tricks of sending up the properties dialogue box.

I'd guess this has something to do with Microsoft trying to push users to save to their cloud, because this latest 'new' version of the unwanted properties dialogue box seems to prioritise saving to the cloud (when I NEVER have done)

I am the IT administrator and the problem is in the programme not the hardware.

Microsoft aren't in any hurry to correct known issues (screen resize) and with nagging issues like this, even less likely to offer a solution. For example today I have the CV assistant box unchecked, so why is this activated too? I'm guessing that my 'preferences' in Word are being overridden and ignored

    best Davey

    Cheers Cliff

Ditching the Normal.dotm file did the trick
