You've somehow managed to turn the feature on in your Normal.dotm template by attempting to edit the template, itself. Either that or the template is corrupt. The best approach is to have the program generate a new one for you.

  1. Quit all Office programs
  2. In Finder hold the Option key while you open the Go menu
  3. Select Library [directly below the Home listing]
  4. In the Library folder navigate to:
  5. Group Containers/UBF8T346G9.Office/User Content/Templates
  6. Drag Normal.dotm to the Desktop and/or rename it, then launch Word

The program will generate a new Normal.dotm when you next Quit it.

If you have any AutoText, Macros or Styles that you want to recover from the old template you can do so using Organizer. Otherwise the old file simply can be deleted.

Alternatively, if you've saved macros, AutoText or Keyboard shortcuts in your normal template, try opening it and turning off Tracked Changes.

How to Open the Normal Template in Any Desktop Version of Word (except Mac 2008)

Once you have Tracked Changes turned off, type any letter and then backspace or delete it.

Do not use UnDo. Close and save the template.
