Microsoft Word Autocorrect Language Incorrect

My Language set in Windows 10 is English (United States). It is the only language I have on the list. In Microsoft Word 2016, my Language is set to English (United States) <default> and it is enabled and set for Proofing. My Display Language and Help Language are both set to 1. English <default>.

HOWEVER, when I go into Word Options > Proofing > AutoCorrect Options...

The window that pops up is titled: AutoCorrect: Spanish (Spain).

I see no option to change the language for AutoCorrect anywhere. How do I change this?

Hi Mackattacker,

To set your proofing language you do it by going to:

  1. Place the cursor in the location where you want to start typing in a different language, or if you already have text, select the text.
  2. On the Review tab, in the Languagegroup, click Language, then click Set Proofing Language.
  3. In the Editing Language pane, select the language that you want to use.

If you need further help, Please capture a screenshot of your File > Account page. (Please mask personal information on the screenshot to protect your privacy).

Regards,

Eric

The language for the AutoCorrect Options dialog is determined by the proofing language applied at the current insertion point, not by anything on a program-wide or document-wide basis. Since that proofing language can be changed on as little as a single character, you could see a different Options dialog just by moving the insertion point to another location.

If you don't already have the proofing language displayed on the status bar, right-click the status bar and click "Language" to put a check mark next to it. Which language does it display when you're about to open the AutoCorrect Options dialog? Does the language of the dialog match the one shown in the status bar?

With the help of both comments, I was able to determine that the issue was not caused by a setting with Word, but rather with the fact that some of the text in the document had been copied from a document whose author had Spanish set to his default Proofing Language.

So I did a CTRL-A to select all of the text, changed the language to English per Eric Lu's instructions, which I was able to understand because of your (Jay Freedman) explanation. So thank you!
