Automatic calculation not persisting

Although I have Calculation set to automatic in Preferences, the bottom left of the excel window continually shows the word calculate.  Even after hitting the calculating now button in the formula ribbon, the word calculate still appears.  This only seems to be happening with this particular file and not all excel files.   It appears that automatic calculation works most of the time but it does not seem to be working with either solver or goal seek and is causing each to not find a solution.  I did notice that this started after I did an update to excel.  Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you

If you are using Windows 10 then it will be around here...

    C:\Users<Your Name>\Roaming\Microsoft\Excel\XLSTART\PERSONAL.XLSB

or you can find it by going into VB, display the Immediate window, then in that type

    ?Application.StartupPath

    then press Enter

The workbook in question is actually an XLSM file.  All of the macro's are simple and created by myself.  I suppose it's possible that when recording one it captured manual calc.  I'll check that.  How do I find the personal workbook?  The only one that I know of is in the VBA editor and I have not saved anything to it and I do not see it in the Project Window

Sorry - that's the only thing I can think of.  If it was me, I would open all the workbooks on their own, check that it is on auto, save and close it.  I presume these are XLXS workbooks and not XLSM workbooks with macros?  I did come across one case where a 'run on open' macro had been written to put calc onto manual.

Odd how it started after an update though...

Let us know if you find a solution.

Just another thought - does your Personal workbook (that opens hidden when Excel opens) have calculation set to auto?

Grey - Yes I did have other workbooks open, but all were set to automatic calculation.  Any additional thoughts?

A common 'feature' used to be that if you had open a workbook on automatic, and then you also opened a workbook set to manual, the automatic workbook would also be set to manual calculation.

So are you opening other workbooks at the same time, and if so, check their calculation setting?
