Sorting order labels

Hi

I have 3 page of labels.  There are 3 columns where I have inputed employees names and addresses.

What I want to do is to order this as per the payroll number order.  So each employee has an employee number.  When I run off the payslips they are printed per the payroll order number order.

The labels currently don't have a payroll number - although I can input this quite easily.

Is there a way to sort the labels (when I say labels,  in word it is a table with 3 column and rows) - I then print them on label in the printer but I don't know how to sort it per the payroll number order.

I would suggest that you DO use mail merge.

See “Convert Labels into Mail Merge Data File” on fellow MVP Graham Mayor’s website at:

and then, see the article “Mail Merge with Word 2007/2013” on fellow MVP Graham Mayor’s website at

Yes, if you put the payroll number in at the top it should be relatively easy. Simplest would be if you save a sample document with the problem on OneDrive or Dropbox and paste a link here. Remove any confidential or sensitive information first. I or someone else can take a look at it.

    See https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/for...

I.e., just a couple of pages of labels with dummy names and numbers would work.

    Hi

    Thank you for the reply.

There is no mail merge.  It is a static table.  I add labels for new employees.

Is there a way to sort these in word if I inserted the payroll number.

If they are done using mail merge, the simplest way is to sort the data by payroll number in the data source prior to the merge.

    Hi Zia,

To sort by payroll number, the payroll number must be available.

How are you producing the labels? Mail merge?
