Remove formatting marks/remarks

I turned on viewing my formatting marks to make some corrections (Word 10) and then turned them off.  However, two things remain and I cannot see how to hide this.

In the footer by the page numbering, on each side of the number there is  now a weird bracketed blue  text that says Page Numbering Bottom of Page.  I've never seen that before.  How can I remove or hide it?

Also, at every place where I insert a link to a cited source it now shows a strange blue symbol which I assume is the code for a link or something.  But I don't want to see that either.

I've unchecked all the boxes under the file options and that didn't work either.

Thanks for response!

Karen

The solution is to turn off the Design Mode button on the Developer ribbon:

Explanation: When you use the Page Number button on the Insert ribbon or on the Header & Footer ribbon to insert a "Top of Page" or "Bottom of Page" page number, it's inserted in a content control. When the Design Mode button is turned on, you'll see the blue boxes that indicate the presence of the content control. Turning off Design Mode makes the boxes invisible. The same thing is true for citations, except that there's no text inside the boxes.

    Hi,

Press Alt+F9 to toggle display of field codes.

If that does not work, you may need to also press the Fn key or your keyboard.
